Readings

We're always on the lookout for new and exciting scripts from the East Midlands to be part of our sporadic readings programme - Origins.

We aren’t looking for scripts that are necessarily finished or absolutely performance-ready. We want to find scripts which excite us with a real sense of potential in them from writers who want to develop both this specific piece and their craft. These scripts could be of any genre, about any subject, and by anyone living in the East Midlands (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire – sorry writers elsewhere) as long as the script is in English and you don’t mind heading to Nottingham to work on it with us.

If you’re interested in written feedback on your script then our collaborative project with Nottingham Playhouse reading unsolicited scripts, where Gareth is an associate, may be for you – click here.

Plays will be read and held on file until a platform event for new work comes around. One or more scripts from those we have received will be chosen for this project. We will then work on the play for around a month, finding a suitable group of actors and putting together the rehearsed reading, which will be shared in public. As a writer, your views are the most important thing to us and we will correspond to you as much as possible to ensure you are getting what you want from the project. At the reading, the audience will be invited to give feedback, and hopefully you will gain valuable insight that will help you take your script to the next level of its development.

We don’t currently have a time-frame for our next reading but if you are interested in working with Act 2 in the future, please get in touch via the contact form here and we will send you all the details. Happy writing!

We are also always looking for actors and directors to be part of our readings- if you’d like to work with us in this capacity, please get in touch – again using the contact form!
